Rozhlasový Big Band Gustava Broma (CZ)
Reliably the most senior ensemble in this year’s United Islands: the well-known jazz orchestra began its professional career in June 1940 in the hotel Radhošť in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, and its founder Gustav Brom stood at its head until his death in 1995. The band was accompanied by the biggest stars of jazz and pop – among others, Maynard Ferguson, Dizzy Gillespie or Diana Ross and the Supremes – and in the sixties, the American jazz journalists lined it up to the best orchestras in the world. Even today, under the baton of Vlado Valovič, it features top musicians, including younger generations, such as the trumpeter Miroslav Hloucal, the saxophonist Andrew Štveráček or the trombonist Štěpán janoušek. Since 2013, the orchestra became the residential ensemble of the Czech Radio.
