Džezvica (CZ)
When it is said that a group is inspired by rhythms and melodies of the Balkan, most listeners immediately think of rapid brass bands from Romania or Goran Bregovic. Džezvica, however, chose a different approach to its repertoire which consists of modified Bulgarian and Macedonian folk songs, Bosnian Sevdah and Ilahie or gypsy music – and it is largely given to the fact that the majority of the members have experience with gospel, swing and classic music on top of folklore or world music. It is evidenced also by the instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, cello, flute or cajon. A charismatic three-part singing of three singers, dynamic odd rhythms and a successful fusion of the European and oriental music make the ornaments of their upbeat songs and nostalgic ballads.
